The beautiful coastal town of Sitges, about 30 km south of Barcelona, is famed for its artistic history, wonderful beaches and lively nightlife. It also has some fantastic places to eat. Here is my list of the best restaurants in Sitges.
Location: Passeig de la Ribera, 6
Must try dish:
Lobster ravioli / Dominique’s chocolate cake
This Sitges restaurant has been serving high-end Mediterranean cuisine since 1991. The prices are slightly higher than other establishments, but the dishes like the slow cooked beef cheek or squid ink rice are top quality. On top of that, it’s beachside location adds to the attraction. Full review here.
Located at the top of a small alleyway in the centre of sitges is the charming restaurant Alfresco. Fantastic food in an enchanting environment with mood lighting. And, one of my favourite locations for special occasions. Full review here. Note, they’re open every day, but only in the evenings.
An absolute hidden gem in the backstreets of San Sebastian beach. Under new management since my last visit over 5 years ago. It was really good back then, but now it completely wowed me. The outstanding food, like the lobster raviolis with cream, or the venison skewers, are made to share. Artworks adorn the walls inside, and out back there’s a delightful garden dining space, perfect for those warm summer nights.
A captivating restaurant on a little narrow street leading to the beach serving food with flare. The brick walls and low lighting create a cosy environment, but it’s the creative meat and fish dishes that’s the reason to visit. Like, the flaming rock and roll Jack Daniels cake, set alight by the waiter at your table, or the succulent beef tenderloin steak revealed through liquid nitrogen. The wine list is also quite extensive.
Location: Av. Balmins, s/n
Must try dish: Paella de arroz del Señorito
or arroz caldoso con bogavante (lobster broth)
Vivero Beach Club and Restaurant has one of the stand out locations in Sitges over looking the sea. It’s set over three floors, with two terraces and a spacious, bright inside seating area underneath. Not only is the venue incredible, but the seafood and many rice dishes on offer are exceptional. Above all else, in my opinion they do the best arroz caldoso con bogavante (lobster broth) that I’ve ever had. However, it can get very busy in the high-season so it’s definitely a good idea to book ahead.
If it’s tapas you’re after, this is the go to place. A fantastic modern tapas bar in the heart of Sitges with incredibly fresh ingredients. Enticing seafood sit on ice at the bar, and there’s a deli section at the front where the premium Iberian ham is thinly sliced. So many great options to choose from, but my favourites are the pinchos (marinated pork cubes) and the tempura prawns with sweet chilli sauce.
Location: Av. del Port d’Aiguadolç, 24
Must try dish:
Seafood food paella & Jamón ibérico with pan
con tomate
A popular restaurant in the port that has amazing seafood and meat dishes. It’s got a large seating area in a water front gazebo opposite the main restaurant. They offer a selection of different rice dishes, including black rice with squid ink, braised rice with spider crab and not forgetting the seafood paella (a classic).
Can Laury is another restaurant in the port serving top quality paella and seafood in general. The wait staff are smartly dressed in this traditional Catalan restaurant, which gives it a sophisticated feel. It’s a beautiful place to enjoy a meal overlooking the boats in the marina. Well worth the 15 minutes or so walk from the main town. Plus, they offer fixed price menu deals that are worth checking out.
Location: Av. del Port d’Aiguadolç
Must try dish:
Fetuccine with salmon & caviar cream sauce
The next to feature in our list of the best restaurants in Sitges is also in the port. This one serving Italian food. Very authentic flavours, fresh ingredients and presentation, you’d be forgiven for actually thinking you were in Italy.
Komokieras is a successful restaurant in Sitges that is big on meat and serves good quality Argentinean steaks. As well as, local dishes in a simple, yet elegant setting with white table cloths. Full review here.
Fragata, next to the cobbled steps leading up to the famous Church, has a terrace space out front and serves a good selection Catalan food. There are plenty of seafood options including paellas for instance, on top of tapas and meat options as well. Full review here.
Location: Carrer de les Parellades, 63
Must try dish:
Seabream fillet with a touch of Thai
A Mediterranean restaurant located in the centre of Sitges that’s been operating for over 40 years. Elegant dishes are served in a refined dining space, including a number of meats and different fresh fish options. Of particular note are the crab croquetas, which are delicious.
Location: Av. Camí de Miralpeix, 12
Must try dish:
Grilled octopus with smoked potato parmentier
This stylish yet relaxed restaurant is located within the 5 star Dolce Hotel and Resort, just outside Sitges. They have a variety of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes at reasonable prices. Choose to dine in the well decorated interior, or on the tranquil terrace overlooking the golf course. They also do a really tasty selection of desserts.
In my opinion, Federal is the number one place to go in Sitges for the best breakfast or all day brunch. This Australian cafe has a number of locations in Barcelona and further afield. So, it’s good news for fans of genuine Danish bacon, eggs benedict or avocado toast that they have a venue in Sitges as well. There’s a big menu to choose from. Plus, for those hot summer days they do a delicious iced chai tea.
Location: Carrer de Sant Gaudenci, 12
Must try dish: Pirineu pizza
(mozzarella, mushrooms, butifara sausage
meat, garlic & parsely)
If you’re after the best pizza in Sitges, then La Farina 1792 is a very good choice. An inviting and modern dining space with fantastic wood-oven pizzas. They’ve got a number of mouth-watering meat, seafood and vegetarian toppings available. The starters are great as well, the burrata salad is exceptionally good.
Location: Carrer Jesús, 55
Must try dish: Phad Thai
(prawns are huge and you get about 5 per dish)
The hugely successful Barcelona based Thai restaurant group Petit Bangkok is also here in Sitges. This location, which opened in late 2021, serves the same delicious food, big portions of top ingredients, in a charming and brightly decorated venue in the centre of town.
Chicken tikka cooked in the tandoori oven, a spicy biryani or a classic butter chicken, Chai Restaurant has lots of Indian food options. The restaurant itself is cosy and reminds me of the type you can find in towns all across the U.K. Anyone who’s been in Spain long enough knows that spice levels don’t usually go too high, but here they do have some hot dishes and will increase the heat on request.
