Bismilla is located in the lively street Joaquín Costa in Raval, about a 5 minutes walk from La Rambla. The street is full of kebab shops, but Bismilla is in a league of its own. They marinate the meat over-night giving it loads of flavour. A choice of chicken or beef. The naan bread is made in front of you in a tandoor oven. The shawarma, combining that incredibly flavoured meat (I recommend mixed) with salad in a thick warm naan bread is without doubt one of the best kebabs in Barcelona. Add to that the homemade spicy or garlic sauce and it takes it to another level. There’s a large seating area, which can still get very full. Curries are also on offer, but it’s the kebab meat that is king here.

Mustafa, the owner of the super popular kebab kiosk that started in Berlin, Germany, has now opened a shop in Barcelona. Located in Plaza Espanya, you’ll often have to join the queue of people waiting to get their hands on either the chicken or vegetable kebabs. The flavoursome meat is really good quality. You have the choice of durums or a more bready kebap,  to which you can add a nice selection of salad, homemade sauces and cooked vegetables. It’s easy to see why this place is such a success. Two things to note are that they are not over generous with the sauces, but you can request more for 0.80 cents. And the fact that service is a little slow at times, but good things come to those who wait.

Fresh homemade naan bread is used to wrap the shawarmas. Meat selections include beef and chicken, but also a mix of lamb and turkey. Which is a unique combination that’s been a favourite of customers since the start. There’s a good size seating area. Combo plates come with meat (e.g. chicken skewers), rice, hummus and salad. Durum kebabs are also on offer. When a durum is filled with top quality meat, like at La Caravana, and has a dash of home-made spicy sauce, you will really tell the difference compared to your average kebab joint.

Byblos is a small Lebanese kebab shop in the upmarket Sant Gervasi neighbourhood. Incredibly flavoured shredded beef or chicken shawarmas come in a thin wrap. Durum in appearance, but the wrap of a far superior quality to your average place. The kebabs are not churned out at Byblos at break-net speed. Each one is placed inbetween a sandwich grill for a number of minutes. This adds warmth and compresses the flavour. A small seating area and a few bar stools, there is also a hole in the wall ordering system with crowds of locals waiting for their food.
