There are plenty of excellent coffee shops in Barcelona to choose from.I’ve narrowed it down to 19, selecting only those that offer a great ambience, speciality coffee and a unique experience, to give you a list of the best cafes in Barcelona.
Browse the list, which includes map locations and website links, to find your new favourite coffee shop in Barcelona.
My new number one coffee spot in Barcelona is the recently opened Saga Coffee Stories. A place inspired by travel, and somewhere to relax between journeys. It’s not just some of the best coffee in Barcelona they serve here though. There’s also super healthy smoothies, salad bowls and a delicious chai tea latte. On top of that, free wifi and charging points make it a relaxing ‘work from home’ location.
Second on my list of the best coffee shops in Barcelona is a classic that’s been popular since it first opened back in 2010. Set over three floors, with a big inviting communal table on the ground, and a large terrace at the top. The crossroads outside have recently been pedestrianised, making a window seat even more relaxing. Breakfast and brunch options served alongside Arabica coffee.
3. Comillas
Neighbourhood: Eixample
Now onto one of my favourite places for a coffee and one of the best cafes in Barcelona. I just discovered Comillas, and wish I’d have done earlier. Plants surround the entrance and greet you inside as well. It’s like stepping into a jungle garden. One that does great coffee. Add to that the meditation music and relaxing sound of the water feature, it’s a place you can spend hours.
4. Café Cometa
Neighbourhood: Sant Antoni
This trendy cafe is located a short walk from Poble Sec metro station. It’s bright and inviting due to the floor to ceiling windows and colourful art decorating the walls. More seating upstairs and on the street-side terrace. They serve light bites and a really nice coffee, in what is one of the best coffee shops in Barcelona.
This cafe is located at the back of a book shop in Raval. Walk passed all the books and you get to a beautiful secret courtyard with orange trees. Although less secret these days unfortunately. Without a doubt, one of the nicest venues to sip a coffee in and easy to see why it makes the list of best cafes in Barcelona.
Around the back of the main university in Barcelona is a pedestrianised street full of restaurants and bars called C/ d’Enric Granados. And that’s where you’ll find our next best cafe in Barcelona, Café Cosmo. A colourful cafe that serves a large selection of sandwiches, brunch options, coffees and teas in a space full of art works.
Don’t be put off by the devilish name, this is indeed one of the best coffee shops in Barcelona. Satan’s Coffee Co. has two locations, in Eixample and the Gothic Quarter. They roast their own beans, and the speciality coffee is exceptional. The Eixample venue is located within the 4 star hotel Casa Bonay. Which means you can enjoy your drink in the bright and minimalistic coffee shop itself, or take it through to the more luxury seating area of the hotel.
A specialist coffee roasting facility near Tetuan metro station. An industrial look and feel, there’s a few places to sit near the entrance and at the back. They make their own coffee and chocolate using beans from South America. The flat-white I had there was hands down one of the best coffees I’ve had in Barcelona, and the reason LOT Roasters made our list of the best cafes in Barcelona.
Garage Coffee has the privilege of being the only place to feature in two of our lists, Best Cafes & Coffee, and Best Brunch. But, it’s just that good at both. We’ve already discussed the brunch here. However, the coffee is worth mentioning as well. They have a nice selection of specialty coffees, as well as teas and milkshakes. And for those hot Barcelona days, some delicious iced teas and coffees, like the iced latte. Add to that its relaxing atmosphere, this is without doubt one of our favourite cafes in Barcleona.
This award winning Brazilian coffee shop has now opened two locations in Barcelona. The minimalist design gets it’s inspiration from Japan. You make your order and pay through the tablet provided. They have a number of exciting specialty coffees including a ‘Mad Mocha’ (coffee & chocolate), or a cold latte with salted caramel. Takeaway only, but highly recommended as one of the best coffee shops in Barcelona.
Entering into Eroica caffè and seeing all the bicycles and bike jerseys decorating the place, there’s no doubt what the theme is. This trendy cafe is actually used as a meeting point for cyclists, but it’s also so much more than that. Fantastic specialty coffee and authentic Italian food in a spacious and inviting environment. There’s also a cute garden space at the back and street side terrace out front.
Owner Albert Roca is an award winning pastry chef. Sant Croi, which you’ll find at the far end of Sants, almost in Hospitalet, is one of the best cafes in Barcelona. In fact, the croissants served here were voted the best in Spain. A bit further out from the centre, but worth it for the creative cakes and pastries on offer to go with your coffee.
If you’re looking for one of the best coffee shops in Barcelona with a quirky theme, then then this Alice in Wonderland inspired cafe is for you. There used to be three giant mushrooms on the lower floor, which made you feel like you’d suffered the same fate as Alice and shrunk. They’ve since gone, but there are still plenty of murals and interesting furniture in a fun space. Plus, a recent addition is the big garden out the back.
One of the oldest bakeries in Barcelona, and in fact also one of the best cafes in Barcelona. Brunells has been serving customers from the same corner location since 1852. They specialise in cakes and pastries, but do sandwiches too, where you can buy them to take away on one side. And on the other side is their sit down area, decorated in tiffany blue, where you can enjoy them with a quality coffee.
At Syra they provide good quality sustainable coffee, working with small farms around the world. They roast their own beans and have a number of shops all over Barcelona. Generally there’s no seating, this is coffee to go. But it’s service with a smile. Friendly staff in what is one of the best chains of coffee shops in Barcelona. They also have some delicious cakes, brownies and croissants.
Manso’s Cafe is another popular cafe in Sant Antoni. More of a bakery though than a brunch cafe. They have lots of tasty sweet options to choose from, to go with your coffee. This simply had to be included in our list of best cafes in Barcelona.
At this cute vegan coffee shop in a quiet street in Sants they’ve created a place that has the least effect on the environment. Although the space is minimalistic, the design has been done really well. It’s bright and inviting, and has a number of plants. Everything is vegan, from the specialty coffee, to the cakes and homemade cold drinks. The only all vegan venue to make the list of best coffee shops in Barcelona.
A small corner cafe near Plaça d’Espanya that roast their own coffee beans on site. It’s a popular place and easy to see why it’s one of the best cafes in Barcelona. They serve sweet pastries and a variety of toasts with toppings like avocado or raspberry jam.
A Harry Potter themed cafe on the appropriately named Diagonal street that cuts through Barcelona. Inside the final entry on our list of best coffee shops in Barcelona, you’ll find board games, books and the Harry Potter concept everywhere. If HP is your thing, then you’re in for a treat.
