Breakfast at Hawksmoor Guildhall

UPDATE March 2024: Breakfast at Hawksmoor is finally back!!! However, it's not at the Guildhall Branch, but at the Air Street Branch in Piccadilly Circus instead.

Address: Hawksmoor Guildhall, 10 Basinghall St, London, EC2V 5BQ

Must try dish: Full English for 2 to share

Website: Hawksmoor Guildhall

Famous for its steaks, Hawksmoor is now somewhat of an institution in the UK and beyond with restaurants in London, Manchester and also now in New York. Situated in the heart of the City of London is Hawksmoor’s Guildhall branch, which opens early and offers a vast breakfast menu. And breakfast at Hawksmoor is not to be missed.

We’re talking thick bacon chop and fried eggs, to classics such as eggs benedict or the fancy version lobster benedict. They’ve got bubble and squeak (a traditional English dish of leftover cabbage and potatoes, mixed together and fried, but this version has succulent pieces of steak as well).

Steak for breakfast

This being Hawksmoor, where steak is king, there is the option of steak, eggs and hash browns. Not just any old steak of course. Choose from the best cuts they have to offer, from fillet to chateaubriand, ribeye to rump and more.

If steak for breakfast is a bit too much there’s sausage and bacon sandwiches of the highest quality. Cereals, porridge and toasts if you don’t fancy meat. The avacado, chilli and lime on toast for example.

However, the real reason the Guildhall branch is so popular for opening their doors earlier than others has to be for the Full English! It’s more expensive than the English Breakfast you’d get at your average greasy spoon cafe, but the ingredients used make this a luxury Fry up. Pork, beef and mutton sausages, plum pudding bacon and trotter baked beans along with everything else you’d expect. Eggs, black pudding, roast tomato, grilled mushrooms and hash browns.

There is one step up from the Full English. And that’s the ‘For 2 to Share’. Everything being the same except the bacon is replaced with a smoked bacon chop and the hash brown is replaced with short-rib bubble & squeak (includes succulent pieces of steak). You also have grilled bone marrow, HP gravy and unlimited toast. Even if you share between two, arrive hungry!!!

Pick of the drinks during breakfast at Hawksmoor is the Cornflakes Shake. Very sweet, very tasty and comes with the option of adding a dash of Bourbon.

To summarise, the breakfast here is more expensive than your average cafe, but it’s luxury, a bit of indulgence and certainly worth it.
