Indian Breakfast at Dishoom, Covent Garden

Based on the old Irani cafés of Bombay in the early 19th century, breakfast at Dishoom offers something different to the Indian restaurant scene. Now with a few beautifully designed restaurants around the country, they first opened in Covent Garden in 2010 and have been a big success since.

It’s not just breakfast on the menu

You still have your curries, naan breads, chicken tikkas and biryanis on the menu, but also a selection of smaller plates like keema pau (spiced minced lamb and peas with a toasted, buttered bread roll) or the house chaat (Golden-fried sweet potato covered with cool yoghurt, pomegranate, beetroot, radish and carrot).

So, whats for breakfast at Dishoom?

What really makes it stand out though is the breakfast options.  The naan rolls, a mix between east and west. The sausage naan roll uses award winning pepper spiced pork sausages wrapped in a warm naan bread. And it comes with the option to have with or without a fried egg inside.

Or there’s the bacon naan roll using smoked streaky bacon which is matured for two weeks and smoked overnight. Such incredible tasty bacon is not what you’d usually expect from an Indian Restaurant.

Also on the menu are different options like omelettes, exciting cereals or a dish called Kejriwal, two fried eggs on a chilli toast. The latter being a favourite in The Willingdon Club, which was the first Bombay institution to allow natives to join.

If you’re really hungry though, then The Big Bombay is the way to go. Bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, two homemade buns. And giving it that Indian flavour, a portion of akuri (spicy scrambled eggs) and masala beans.
